Due to the fact that the WingsLand S6 is small in size, more like a Mini version, it is much easier to fly than it is to fly a larger drone as some people see it.
Design
Not only is this drone capable of being folded up, making for easy transport, but it also comes in a case that makes it even easier to transport. The arms along with the propellers fold up into a tiny hull in order to reduce the overall size and make it easy to carry around with you.
The S6 Drone weighs in at 230 grams, so it is definitely light in weight. When I used the drone, I actually felt like I had a flying selfie camera (I’ll tell you more about the camera in a bit).
As far as building up the drone after first getting the package, there’s not really much to put together. There are an extra set of propellers and only one battery usually although with this offer you will be getting an extra 2 batteries.
But you can easily slide the battery into its place in the back of the S6, but it takes a bit more effort to pull it out, which in one way is good as it is not simply going to fall out whilst in flight but it is a bit of a pain when you are trying to do a quick turn around and you have two new batteries standing by.
On the side of the S6 body, there is a microSD slot which is the only way the drone can record footage.
Functions
FPV – Technically, the pilot will be able to fly the WingsLand S6 FPV style. However, this would mean that you would have to look at the screen under your thumbs as you’re trying to pilot the drone, in my experience, this doesn’t always end well.
Turn Left/Right, Up/Down – This function works pretty good and I must say, the drone is easy to control. The flying characteristics and the GPS hold are impressive, to say the least.
One Key Landing/Taking Off – That’s right, and it works exactly as you’d expect it to work.
Gravity Sense Control – They’re referring to the sensors that are at the bottom of the drone and they are amazing. With the gravity sensor control, the S6 always knows where it is in relation to the ground. I personally find this to be a great feature as it stops the drone from colliding with the earth.
Camera Control – On yes, I cannot forget about the camera control. With the S6 Drone, you will have the ability to change the settings of the camera while it’s up in the air, using your smartphone. You can change frame rates, white balance, turn the EIS on and off, and so on. It works great. The quality of the pictures is really good as you would expect with a 4K Camera.
The camera is similar to that of a Go-Pro in terms of color saturation and sharpness. It is capable of taking pictures of 14MP and videos in 4K, which is a major bonus and should return some excellent photos or videos. So, as you could imagine, this will do a great job at taking pictures and I’m sure that it will not disappoint you.
Return Home – The return home feature is a real gift and is a feature that I always look for when it comes to drones. With the return to home feature, you won’t have to worry about losing your drone as much. It will land around six inches at the most from where it originally took off.
Flight Time – There are claims that the WingsLand S6 has a flight time of 8-10 minutes, which is okay. If you want to fly for a longer period of time, you could bring a backup battery pack with you, hence the extra 2 batteries provided with this current offer. However look at the results from actual fliers of the S6 3 Minutes or less in some cases.
Point of Interest – This function works great. Whenever you enter the point of interest mode, the drone will begin to circle around the spot that you chose as your point of interest. Mind you, during this time, you can still control the height by pulling back on the stick, and this will make the drone circle bigger. This is a great feature if you like taking pictures – you could let the drone circle around you and let it take a zillion selfies from different angles if you wish.
Conclusion
All in all, I would like to really recommend this drone but there have been a few bumps in the road since this bird was first released. As I previously stated, it does an amazing job at taking pictures, so if you enjoy photography, then you could use this for some good aerial photography shots. Although this is quite a new Drone there have been reports of bad battery life, as bad as 3 minutes for each of two batteries in one case. In other cases, there are reports of poor flying in almost any wind at all. People comment that the videos and photos are fantastic as you would expect from a 4K Camera. But that’s about it. Just make sure that you buy the OUTDOOR VERSION!
Mainly due to some of the mediocre reviews from people who have been using the S6, I have included links to the lower price variants should you wish to try them first. It would appear that for the first few out of the box things were bad, but after many fixes it should be good, so now the true price should be around $150 at the most unless there are some serious extras thrown in.
I thought looking at a couple of Video Reviews would help to settle the nerves this one has been done by “DroningOn” This is a must watch!
The following review is the most recent I could find and it does appear that Wingsland have fixed many of its problems as reported when it was first released;
