The Parrot Bebop 2 Compact Drone is a thing of beauty in its own right but when you add the full First Person View Kit (FPV) it just takes advantage of the fact that you can view through the lens as you pilot the drone to new heights. The Bebop 2 now includes the new Parrot Skycontroller 2 and Parrot Cockpitglasses for near perfect flying giving the pilot a totally immersive experience. When using the FPV Headset together with the latest controller you can fly to a wide variety of places and thoroughly enjoy the sporty flying characteristics of the Bebop 2 Drone while at the same time taking great images or creating your video footage.
When wearing the FPV headset, which does take a little getting used to, despite them being lightweight you certainly know they are there. You must first connect the goggles with the FreeFlight Pro application on your smartphone and place it into the Cockpitglasses.
Parrot Bebop 2’s Full HD 1080p camera allows for great viewing and it will feel like you are in the air, some people say that it makes them feel a little queasy, to begin with as well as feeling disoriented. I think it is getting used to looking through a tunnel at your viewing screen but keeping your feet firmly planted and not being able to see exactly where you are at that time. This is where the FPV Glasses come into there own because you can see your on-screen flight information and view as well as viewing your immediate area, you can read more of the FPV Glasses Here! The one benefit of wearing the goggles is that people who wear spectacles can still wear them underneath
the goggles, but this is also true of the FPV Glasses too.
Downloading The Freeflight Pro App.
FreeFlight Pro is a dedicated app for piloting the Parrot Bebop, Bebop 2 and Disco drones. The interface was designed for use with FPV glasses and goggles and allows you to enjoy total immersion.
Your routes, photos, films plus data can be saved in the app. You can then find and share them as you wish on social media. With FreeFlight Pro, you can also access Flight Plan which is an in-app purchase that helps you create autonomous flight plans (altitude, speed, camera angle, etc.). Map out your flight using waypoints, hit takeoff, and watch your drone do.
The Full HD 1080p 14Mp Camera is able to record and store video footage in flight. The 3-axis digital stabilization system ensures that footage is smooth and clear, no matter how the drone moves in flight. The Bebop 2 is also compact and easy to pack up and take anywhere, so you’ll never miss a chance to capture some fantastic aerial videos.
The Skycontroller 2, use two joysticks for ultra-precise piloting and it is stated that you can fly your Bebop 2 up to 1.2 miles away! However, there are a number of reports that say their experience is of losing their drone connectivity when only about 800 meters away.
The manufacturers also say that you can take off and land with the touch of a button, so you will always get home safely with the Return Home feature. But yet again there are a number of reports that state there drone just kept on flying away.
The manufacturers of the Parrot Bebop 2state that this drone is made for flying both inside and outside although some of the users of this drone say that it has certain traits that could be a problem if it was being flown inside and with limited ceiling height. I noticed this in a report from one of Amazons Feedback notices. “It will rise 30 feet straight up before flying back to the starting position.” So this would be no good in your front room.
Some Important tips to be carried out before each flight! It must have the compass calibrated before EACH FLIGHT. You must allow time for it to get a GPS lock. Check the return home to see that both the Bebop and the Flight Controller have GPS, and good GPS. Don’t fly with only 2 bars. TURN OFF SMART DEVICE (PHONE) WIFI when using the Flight Controller. Read everything you can about flying the Bebop. Study the tutorials before flying (Parrot has some very good ones). Research YouTube.
The camera has pros and cons. Centerline camera with stabilization is great, but the number of pixels is limited so it does not have a great low light resolution. Stabilization is faster than gimbal. The gimbal adds weight and is highly susceptible to damage in even a minor crash. This is a hobby grade drone, it is not a toy or an entry-level drone. It takes a little experience to get the most out of it. It is not an out of the box flyer. This is a flying camera. And with a little preparation, it will make great aerial videos and photos.
If you just wanted the basic drone without the goggles or the sky controller you can do so for $285 check out the banner below this.
There is no doubting that this is a fantastic looking compact drone with many endearing qualities, the 25 minutes of flight time is excellent for this size of drone thanks to its high capacity 2700mAh battery and an overall lightweight of 1.1lbs
I can’t see anything too specific about the Parrot Bebop 2 to mark it down, one reason could be because the camera isn’t up to the 4K standard, yes that would also increase the cost so I understand that they have to draw the line somewhere.
There are a number of feedback reports which knock it for one reason or another and it’s easy for me to sit here and criticise someone for not following the rules before they start flying. I can understand that someone buys one of these drones and want to get it set up and to start flying it straight away without reading the manuals or videos. You can then see why their drone has flown away because one or more of the rules have not been followed. But these people must be honest and admit if only to themselves what they have failed to do. However, everyone seems to be shouting that this is not a drone to learn with its too much for most people to handle,
Personally, I like the looks of this Parrot Bebop 2 Compact Drone, especially with the FPV Pack, it just takes advantage of the through the lens camera and that you can immerse yourself in the flight and of yourself piloting the aircraft. However, I can see this compact drone developing into a bit of a love-hate item because people are comparing this to the DJI Phantoms in terms of price and performance. But you are getting the Parrot lovers knocking DJI and DJI knocking Parrot and on it goes.
There have been many valid comments made in the Feedback Pages of Amazon, that appear to be saying follow the pre-flight rules or accept the blame when you crash your drone or it flies away. This is not a toy drone, this drone demands respect, you need to know what you’re doing or the will be tears to follow.
