Wingsland X1 Micro FPV Racing Drone with HD Camera
If you weren’t able to make the CES in Las Vegas this year (2018), then you missed the initial announcement of this micro racing drone from Wingsland.
The Wingsland X1 FPV Racing Drone is really a micro racer and I think its great
although I still prefer the bigger sized groups myself. But, this little racer has three intriguing options that make it stand out from the crowds of the many micro racers already in this field. The three additions include the modular design, optical flow, and WiFi FPV.
Having a modular design on a drone is a big plus because this will allow you to easily swap out parts whether you’re making repairs to the drone or customizing it. So yes, the modular design is definitely a nice addition to the Wingsland X1.
WiFi FPV. This can be a good feature because you won’t have to wear goggles all the time, in order to watch the live video feed from your drone, you can see it directly from your smartphone. However, there could be a few drawbacks too. Sometimes, WiFi FPV can cause lag and lag makes it hard to navigate properly, especially if there are obstacles around for
you to navigate around.
Secondly, with WiFI FPV is likely to have a limited range. But with micro racing drones, this may not be a big issue as it would be if you were to use a full-size drone. This is because you can easily fly the smaller drones inside your home, and if you are flying it outside, it will probably be on a smaller course with everything nearby and within range.
Another good thing with the Windsland X1, is that the camera angle can be adjusted, For any drone which has a camera, I think that it is important to be able to adjust when required.
This adds a camera that faces downward – it helps the drone be able to maintain its position in the air. This works whether you are indoors or out and it can help you to stabilize the drone and keep it in a hover. This is a feature that you would expect to find on photography drones so although a surprise it’s a good one to see this on the Windsland X1 Micro FPV Racing Drone.
The Wingsland X1 Micro FPV Racing Drone is a good little micro racing drone. Its modular design is good, but it’s the optical flow that makes it stand out for me. Instead of using WiFi for FPV, I prefer using a 5.8GHz camera signal instead. The brushed motors give it a powerful look, but that doesn’t mean it can compete with the brushless motors on other micros. If you’re looking for something that really stands out from the crowd, then the Wingsland X1 would be a suitable choice for you, but don’t expect to be able to race around with it. It’s more of a flash toy for the youngsters or Dad’s to play around with, in my opinion anyway.
